Updated: Jul 6, 2023

Craving a whimsical culinary adventure? Look no further than the marvelous world of mushroom chocolate candy! Indulge in the perfect balance of flavors as you combine 9 grams of vegan chocolate with 1 gram of finely powdered mushrooms.

Picture the scene: friends gathered around, laughter filling the air, as you embark on a delightful chocolate-making escapade. With each delectable bite, the rich chocolate dances harmoniously with the earthy essence of the mushrooms, creating a truly enchanting taste experience.

Get ready to savor the magic of mushroom-infused chocolate, a treat that promises both deliciousness and a dash of whimsy.

In a nutshell:

  • Blend 9 grams of vegan chocolate with 1 gram of mushroom powder

  • Gather your friends for a delightful chocolate-making adventure

  • Indulge in the harmonious dance of rich chocolate and earthy mushrooms

  • Brace yourself for a whimsical and delicious taste sensation.

Use any kind of gourmet or medicinal mushroom to make candies. I've used reishi, oyster, lion's mane, chaga, and other mushrooms. Any mushroom that is safe to eat can be used for this recipe.

It's important that the mushrooms be 100% dried. Moisture will significantly reduce the lifespan of these chocolates. Never, under any circumstances, add water to the mix. WATER WILL RUIN YOUR CHOCOLATES!

Check out my favorite dehydrator for drying mushrooms! I prefer the digital temperature dial and time settings. I also like metal wire racks instead of plastic ones.

Material to make magic mushroom chocolates

  • Vegan chocolate

    • It's so important to use vegan dark chocolates. DO NOT USE milk chocolates. They will turn out really gross.

  • Double-boiler

  • Your favorite mushrooms

  • Chocolate molds that hold 15 ml per bar

    • These are surprisingly difficult to find! I found some at a local bakery store in Memphis, Tennessee. But I also found some on amazon. The important part is that the cavities (the place where the chocolate goes) can hold 9 grams of chocolate and 1 gram of mushroom powder.

  • Candy wrappers

    • I highly recommend using this brand of candy wrappers. They come with a thin sheet of wax paper between each sheet of aluminum. The wax will help keep the chocolates stay fresh and will help keep them intact if they melt a little bit. HIGHLY recommend.

  • Digital Scale

    • You're definitely going to need to invest in a digital scale to help keep your chocolate to mushroom ratio correct.

Grind Mushrooms

To create the perfect mushroom chocolate concoction, one must master the art of grinding mushrooms into a fine powder. Begin by ensuring that the mushrooms are cracker dry, for optimal texture and potency.

With a trusty grinder, pulverize the dried mushrooms until they transform into a fine powder. This crucial step ensures seamless integration with the melted chocolate, allowing the flavors to meld harmoniously.

Remember, the key lies in achieving that velvety consistency, so take your time and grind those mushrooms to perfection.

Best Grinder for Mushrooms

Grain mills are the best grinders for turning your dried mushrooms into a fine powder. But you can also use a coffee mill as well.

Process for Making Chocolate Mushroom Bars

  1. Weigh your chocolate and your mushrooms. Use a ratio of 9:1 of chocolate to mushrooms. I use a chocolate mold with a cavity size of 1 5/8" long x 1/2" deep x 1" wide.

  2. Grind dried mushrooms. You can use a coffee grinder or a blender. Make sure the mushroom powder is as fine as you can get it.

  3. Melt chocolate according to your double-boiler or ceramic candy melt.

  4. Mix the mushroom powder into the chocolate and scoop that mixture into the individual molds.

  5. Allow the molds to cool overnight in the fridge.

  6. Knock the chocolates out of the molds and wrap them in the candy wrappers and store them in the freezer.

Magic Mushroom Chocolate Bars

It's so easy, it'll seem like magic ;)

Making your own mushroom chocolates is so easy! And if your molds or tastes require modification on the chocolate to mushroom ratio, you can easily change the recipe while still using the same process.

Now eat some chocolate, get out in the sunshine, and share some chocolates with your friends!
